about

ji won is the free-roaming multi-instrumental virtuosa, unsung shepherd-poet, songbird-soprano of the bow valley, and folk-revival peacepunk armed with an 1867 viglianese fiddle, demonstrative grit and vibrant communication. in her home of canmore, nestled in the rocky mountains, she is recognized as an emerging artist of red-blooded zeal, interpretative strength, and punctuating, lyrical sincerity.

often compared to folk singers joni mitchell and joan baez, her songs combine the elegance of operatic aria with the raw edges of barnyard bluegrass, the pointed grooves of a barefoot rebellion, to deliver truths of spiritual longing, cross-class political tensions and human connection etched across time. her sound is a triune tapestry of precision, grace and spontaneity. in her performances, she seeks to disband exclusionary prejudices in artistic spaces, audiences and music.

ji won has planted her stories at local venues; canmore folk fest's warm-up, the main stage of banff & lake louise tourism's in search of christmas spirit and housekeeping olympics, the banff christmas market, the carter-ryan gallery, the banff springs, château lake louise, artsplace canmore and the beaumont music festival. she also entertains at cafés, house-concerts and luncheons with spirited, intermingling humour. along with banff singer-songwriters irene poole and heather jean jordan in their buzzing new trio, the three sisters, she will be taking the stage at canmore folk fest in august 2025.

hailing from the theatrical hum of stratford, ontario—canada's beating heart of shakespearean drama—ji won is no stranger to the multifaceted world of art. a classically-trained violinist, she brings a kaleidoscopic wisdom of composition and performance beyond her years, beginning in the concert hall, to wildflower valleys, off-grid trailer communes and birdseye-planked pulpits.
